The Last Journey

The last week from Exmouth to Perth took us to a few last amazing places. First up was Carnarvon. Home to the volunteer run Space Technology museum. We weren’t sure what to expect. Carnarvon was home to one of a few communication stations that supported early NASA missions, including the moon landings.

There were a lot of fascinating exhibits on the history of the place as well as it’s ongoing use in space communications.

We also got to meet Buzz, their resident mouser..

We took an afternoon for some amazing snorkeling north of carnarvon at a place called the aquarium. There were also really active blowholes nearby.

South from Carnarvon we hit a major storm coming north and hunkered down at the Overlander Roadhouse for the night. It stormed and rained all night but we were safe in our small room. Next morning was bright and sunny but lakes remained.

We had a few nights at Kalbari to explore the Kalbari National Park, which has inland river gorges as well as coastal areas.

It was the beginning of humpback whale migration season. We did not see any, but we did spot a pod of dolphins from the cliff top.

We had a night in Port Gregory near a pink lagoon.

Our last two nights camping were spent at Sandy Cape, just a few hours north of Perth. We enjoyed walks on the beach, but the water and air temperature were a bit cold for swimming.

We were treated to a wonderful sunset on our last night.

A quick brekkie the next morning and we were off to Perth to sell our camper trailer and repack for the flights home.
